The Outdoor Education Program includes courses like Rock Climbing and Mountaineering courses, Kayaking, Kayak Touring, Swiftwater River Rescue, Leave No Trace (LNT), Wilderness First Responder or Wilderness First Aid and Risk Management courses. The courses are taught by experts in the field. Certified instructors from American Mountain Guide Association (AMGA) teach rock climbing; kayaking and swiftwater river rescue is taught by instructors from American Canoe Association (ACA); while the Wilderness First Responder or Wilderness First Aid is taught by the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS).

The biggest attraction and best thing about the Outdoor Education Program at Idaho State University is that almost all the courses are taught out in the fields, where they ought to be performed. This gives the students a chance to experience various situations firsthand and also the ability to tackle difficult conditions.

But the cherry on the cake is the location of the Idaho State University. A short drive from the university can take you to the Yellowstone and Teton National Parks where you can climb the Tetons, ski at the Jackson Hole or Grand Targhee, kayak on the Snake River. The Salmon River is the ideal location for whitewater rafting and kayaking. In the west is the Sun Valley, a paradise for the backpacking class. To the south is the desert country of Southern Utah and the mountain resorts of Utah. And also right outside the city of Pocatello are numerous skiing options, mountain biking trails, yurt systems, etc.
