There are many colleges in the United States that provides a perfect location, architecture, and campus for movies and television. Here is the list of colleges that featured most in films and television.

Harvard University is the oldest institution in the US which was founded in 1636. Its centuries-old prestige has attracted America's popular imagination. The university has been featured in various film and television productions; however, these television shows and films were not actually shot on Harvard campus. Since the filming of Love Story in 1970s, until the filming of The Great Debaters in 2007, Harvard prohibited filming on its grounds and campus buildings, due to which the movies portraying Harvard University had to be shot in look-alike cities, colleges or off-location. Some of these shows and movies include Legally Blonde, Stealing Harvard, Gilmore Girls, Queer As Folk, Good Will Hunting, How High, The Firm, Harvard Man, and Sugar and Spice.

University of Southern California

With the historic ties to both the entertainment industry and Hollywood, the USC campus has been the location for dozens of famous television shows, films, music videos and commercials. USC campus serves as a popular spot for filmmakers, standing in for various other universities, “playing” institutions such as Oxford and Harvard in movies and on television. The movies shot at this university include Being John Malkovich, For Love of the Game, The Graduate, Forrest Gump, Thirteen Days, Young Frankenstein, What Women Want, and Legally Blonde. The television shows include Buffy, 24, Alias, 7th Heaven and many more. Recently, the USC campus has served as a backdrop for popular television games shows Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy!

University of California, Los Angeles

Hosting a world-famous film school, there is no surprise that UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles) is at the top of the list of colleges that are featured most in film and television. Situated in West Los Angeles, a stone's throw away from Hollywood, UCLA campus has been the location for numerous films and TV series. Much of the 1985 film Gotcha! as well as John Singleton's Higher Learning was shot at the university. Old School, Erin Brockovich, Legally Blonde, American Pie, The Nutty Professor and How High were all mainly shot at the university campus. In addition, scenes from the TV shows Alias, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and the O.C. were shot on campus as well. The Bollywood movie My Name is Khan was also shot at UCLA in January 2009.

Columbia University

Columbia University is one of the top universities that featured most in film and television. Many television shows and movies have been filmed on Columbia’s various campuses. But due to university regulations, the university itself has not been named in many of its featured films. Some of the films shot on this location are Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Anger Management, K-Pax, Ghostbusters I and II, Hitch, and Spider-Man. There are some movies that mention Columbia but were actually not filmed on campus which include Igby Goes Down and Old School.

Occidental College

Occidental's architecture, campus, and proximity to Hollywood have made it a desired location for various film and television shots. If you're a film history buff, then you'll be especially interested in Occidental College. Unlike other colleges, this college has had some notable film credits which date back to the first third of the 20th century, when the Hollywood film industry was still in its infancy. Some of these classic films which were filmed at Occidental College's campus include She Loves Me Not, with Kitty Carlisle and Ben Crosby in 1934; The College Hero, with Ben Turpin; Horse Feathers, starring the Marx brothers; and Pigskin Parade. The most recent films filmed at Occidental include Orange County, Jurassic Park 3, and The Holiday.
